This Outfitter offers a 4 days winter hunt for Musk Ox near Kangerlussuaq, West Greenland.

This hunt is for adventure hunters who want to experince the Arctic Winter. The hunting brings you into the remote arctic winter-wilderness. It is hunting in extreme conditions with temperatures from around 0 to - 40 C. It is an adventure in the worlds “last frontier”. The Hunting Camp is well equipped with a heated Tent Camp near the deep frozen Robinson River or a Hunting Cabin near the frozen fjord with a remarkable view over the terrain.

You will start hunting for Musk Ox, and you will hunt by ATV/Snowmobile and on foot on a Spot & Stalk Hunt. Depending on current conditions, the use of ATVs or Snowmobile to bring you into the area, and after spotting the animal, the stalk on foot will begin. You will often be close to big Arctic Musk Ox during the hunt. The last part of the Hunt is exiting in ways that sometimes test the your nervous system! You will be hunting under extreme Arctic Winter conditions; therefore your physical condition\health have to be good. Normally you will be able to take the vehicle to the Trophy to pick up meat and trophy. If that is not possible, you must be able to carry your trophy (20-40 kg) over a short distance to the vehicle. After approaching the lonely bull or family group, there will normally be opportunity to find support for your rifle on rocks or small hills, when you are shooting.

You will drive to the Hunting Camp by crossing the frozen fjord by ATV or snowmobile. The distance of driving from the town is approximately 45 km and then you will find yourself in the middle of the wilderness. You will then be in a Safari Camp that will work as the center for some of your life’s greatest experiences. This Outfitter offers near 100% success on strong Musk Ox bulls with good trophy horns or old bulls with strong boss.

The Outfitter welcomes you to a cold hunt of a lifetime, which requires real hunters who can take up a cold challenges. There are only a few places in the world where you find the exclusive trophy of the Musk Ox together with the possibility to shoot all of ''The Arctic Five'.

Muskox Hunting Aug.-Sep.-Oct.

The Outfitter offers a 4 days hunt for Musk Ox near Kangerlussuaq, West Greenland. The hunt brings the hunters into the real wilderness. This is a hunting adventure in the worlds ''Last Frontier'', where you will stay in Tent Camp near the Robinson River during the hunt. There are three (3) tents in camp; one for the Hunters complete with field beds, one for the Guides and a Kitchen Tent with a remarkable view over the River. The sanitary side of an Arctic Safari are primitive; there is a field toilet.

Practical information - Musk Ox Hunting

Required Gear for Musk Ox Winter Hunting:

Practical warm clothing, multiple layers for hunting (it can be from 0 to –40 C).
Warm clothing, big gloves, warm head cover for transportation in open vehicle over the ice.
Warm winter boots for transportation in open vehicle over the ice.
Trekking boots that fit and that you are used to.
Rifle (dried out of oil) – you can also rent one from them (New Mossberg rifle cal. 30-06).
Day backpack.
Sleeping bag, minimum comfort temp. -35 C. (can be rented from them).
Personal isolated drinking bottle.
Sunglasses.
Sun protection (also for lips).
Camera and extra batteries.
Personal grooming articles.
Personal medications.

Various information:

The Camp

In the Camp, there are three tents with field beds and field toilet. The Camp is simple but functional, we have a generator, but because we have to carry fuel in backpack, it is only for emergency, so make sure that all batteries are fully charged before going. Only the Kitchen Tent will be heated morning and evening!


The Food

Breakfast: Bread with butter, cheese, jam and oats.

Lunch: Rye bread with sliced meat.

Dinner: Freeze-dried meals or meals made out of the animal we shoot.

Beverages is coffee, tea, juice and water. You are welcome to take alcoholic beverages with you, or you can arrange it with the Outfitter in advance, so that the alcohol will be in camp on your arrival.

Weapons to Greenland

It is allowed to bring firearms and ammunition to Greenland, remember to bring your “home country” weapon/hunt license. The Outfitter will send you a Declaration Form to fill out and bring with you. Contact your air flight company for info regarding air flight regulations. It is possible to rent a Firearm from the Outfitter.

The Weather

Kangerlussuaq has an "inland" climate with warm summers and cold winters. It is located above the Arctic Circle and has an Arctic Climate. In winter, there is very little risk of rain and lots of sunshine. On a warm day, the temperature can rise up to approximately 0 C. Be prepared for temperatures from 0 to –40 C. Snow and rain is not very common in the winter, but can occur.

Especially for Bow Hunters

Musk Ox

Bow Hunter’s must obtain Bow Hunt License (proof) from home country. Only a Compound Bow is allowed and it must be minimum 28 kg (60 pound) pull. Arrows - minimum weight must be 525 grains and arrowheads are not to be mechanical.

Caribou

Bow Hunter’s must obtain Bow Hunt License (proof) from home country. Only a Compound Bow is allowed and it must be minimum 21 kg (45 pound) pull and the arrow have a weight of minimum 385 grains (25 gr) or minimum 25 kg (55 pound) powered for arrowheads that are mechanical with arrows of minimum 425 grains (28 gr).

General Facts

The Outfitter/Guides

The Outfitter and all Guides have received First Aid training. They all speak and understand the Nordic languages (Danish, Norwegian, and Swedish), as well as English. Some guides also speak German, but it is required that participants speak at least one of the Nordic languages or English.

Air tickets

There are daily (in March and April only four days in the week) direct flights from Copenhagen to Kangerlussuaq. Contact your local Travel Agent.

IMPORTANT: All arrival and departure dates must be agreed in advance with North Safari.

Are not required for Nordic and EU nationals, but it is recommended you bring your passport with you. Non-EU citizens, please contact your Travel Agent.

Currency

Danish Kroner. There is no Bank in Kangerlussuaq. Visa Credit Cards are accepted in the Post Office, Supermarket and at the Airport and in their Shop.

Insurance and Safety

On all trips the Outfitter is equipped with a Satellite Phone, GPS and First Aid Kit. On cross-water trips floating suits, VHF radio and emergency flares. Outfitter and guides are trained in first aid.
IMPORTANT: Participants are required to obtain insurance covering cancellation, illness, accidents and home transport.

The Animal Life

The land around Kangerlussuaq has the largest herds of Musk Ox in the world, and a large stock of Caribou. Polar Fox, Polar Hare, Ptarmigan. Sea Eagles and Peregrine Falcon can often be seen.
